When you buy a motorcycle, you probably hope to get good money back if you sell it someday. That's called resale value, and it matters a lot. All bikes lose value over time — that's just how it works — but some lose it much faster than others.
Harley-Davidson is still a popular brand, and most of its bikes hold their value pretty well because it has such a loyal fanbase. But not every Harley is created equal. Three models in particular have dropped in value faster than the rest, and if you own one, the famous name on the tank might not save you when it's time to sell.
Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250
The Pan America 1250 was a big deal when it came out in 2021. It was Harley's first-ever adventure bike — built for off-road and long-distance riding — and people were excited about it. Early sales were strong, but that excitement didn't last long.
A new 2022 Pan America cost around $19,519. Today, that same bike is worth only about $9,995 — that's almost a 50% drop in just four years. Part of the reason is that once the buzz wore off, buyers went back to traditional Harley styles. On top of that, thousands of early models had defects and had to be recalled, which scared off a lot of potential buyers.
2020 Harley-Davidson LiveWire
The LiveWire is Harley's electric motorcycle, and it had two big problems right from the start: electric bikes just aren't as popular as gas-powered ones yet, and the LiveWire was really expensive.
When it launched in 2020, it cost $30,149 — a steep price for any motorcycle. Today, the same bike is worth around $11,410, which is a loss of about 62%. That's one of the worst drops you'll find on any Harley.
The LiveWire is actually a well-built bike with good performance, but most buyers don't think it's worth the price. Sales have been very low — only 660 bikes sold in all of 2023, and 612 in 2024. To make things worse for used-bike sellers, the newest LiveWire models now start at $16,499, making older used ones even harder to sell.
Harley-Davidson Street 750
The Street 750 was designed to be simple and affordable, with a price tag of $8,099 for the 2020 model. It was a hit in countries like India, but American riders never really warmed up to it. Some people in the biker community even think the bike wasn't really designed with U.S. riders in mind.
It had a top speed of 105 mph, which is fine, but not very exciting by Harley standards. Because it sold poorly in the U.S., it didn't hold its value well at all. A used 2020 Street 750 now sells for around $4,305 on average — nearly half of what it cost new.
If you're buying a Harley and plan to sell it someday, these three models — the Pan America 1250, the LiveWire, and the Street 750 — are the ones to be most careful about. They all lost close to half their value (or more) in just a few years.
